 During the summer holidays, usually devoted to rest and relax, there are several opportunities to have fun: the climate allows for different moments of leisure, like the many open air concerts, while those who want to deepen their knowledge of the culture of the places visited may advantage of l ocal traditional festivals, or festivals. These festivals are present in every region of Italy, and allow tourists to discover the traditions and local flavors, making it easier integration and understanding of different cultures.
The village festivals are traditional festivals, opportunities to live near some of the events of a community, being in interaction with dinaminche different from those of big cities. In particular, there are three types of traditional festivals: what is more properly called the festival, the Palio and the religious festival.
The festival is usually devoted to the rediscovery of the typical products of the place, the result of agriculture, fisheries or grazing, but also crafts, and is a powerful attraction for those who have interest in agrotourism. In case this is a food festival, the festival usually celebrated a key ingredient in traditional local cuisine, and you can taste the typical dishes of the past, cooked by the ladies of the area that have maintained their ancient farming traditions. Thus were born the various festivals the ocean, the horse meat, mushrooms, frogs or even fried polenta.
A second type is the traditional festival of the Palio, during which you can rediscover the consolidation of feelings of belonging and historical rivalry with the surrounding area. Often these historical recreations and are the result of centuries of tradition. However, the wording of the Palio also relives released by historical re-enactment as a means to promote and enhance agricultural techniques or traditions now in disuse.
The last category is that relating to the celebration of religious feast, during which it is possible to live the high participation of local people in preparing to celebrate the holy: often are a major tourist attraction for the performance of rituals and traditions that evoke old values.
Through these local events is possible, for an evening dip in the uses and customs of the people living in rural towns, learning about the tools and products that characterize a style and pace of life away from those people.
Below is a list of recommended events, representative for each type:
- 27 and 28 June 2009 at Sipicciano, near Viterbo, there is the Feast of the donuts, which introduces the tasting donuts with cream, chocolate and white chocolate;
- 26 to 28 June 2009, Borghetto di Tuoro sul Trasimeno, near Perugia, is held the 44th Fish Festival, dedicated to the culinary traditions of fish of Lake Trasimeno and the sea;
- 9 to 12 July 2009, with Allumiere, in the province of Rome, will host the Feast of the Boar and trails alum (http://www.contradaghetto.it/);
- The Palio di Siena, which takes place on two occasions: July 2, you run the "Palio di Provenzano, at the Madonna di Provenzano, August 16 while it runs the" Palio of the Assumption, "in honor of Our Lady Assumption;
- To Ollolai, in the province of Nuoro, 11 July 2009 takes place in the Palio Asinelli aiming to rediscover the important role of these cute animals into the family room. The event takes place this evening in Piazza Marconi, the main square of the town;

- Finally, on 4 September each year at Viterbo is celebrated feast of the patron in Santa Rosa, during which recalls the transfer of the body of the holy place in 1258: the night before is carried in procession on the shoulders of one hundred bearers Machine of Santa Rosa, a bell tower and lit up about 30 meters and weighing 52 pounds, topped by a statue of the saint.
